Environmental & Laboratory

introduction

Engineering’s Environmental and Laboratory Division’s primary function is to provide general environmental consulting services, analytical testing services, planning and financial assistance to our clients and technical and analytical support for the engineering division.

Much of our activities are related to regulatory permitting and enforcement. In addition to the fully equipped analytical laboratory, we have field equipment capabilities such as portable gas chromatography, water well measurement and monitoring equipment, field analytical monitor, soil and solid waste sampling equipment, and all related safety equipment.

The laboratory will furnish, on request, any sample collection instructions, sample containers, shipping containers or shipping instructions required for your testing needs. It is advisable to contact the lab prior to sample collection for guidance in any special procedures that may be required. Some of the environmental and laboratory services we offer are listed below.

Environmental Site Assessments – Most commercial property transactions now require an environmental site assessment (ESA). SKG performs ASTM Phase I Site Assessments and all other types of environmental studies that may be required. These may include construction projects, government grants or environmental damage lawsuits.

Water Resource Planning – Water resource planning is an integral part of municipal, industrial and large agricultural operations. SKG Engineering has in house expertise to provide all aspects of water resource planning including surface and groundwater source determination, water quality, water treatment, reuse and water conservation.

Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans – SKG Engineering has considerable experience in developing Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP). We have provided clients with SWPPPs that meet requirements set by the Texas Commission for Environmental Quality for industrial storm water permits and construction storm water permits.
Municipal Facility Planning – Preliminary engineering reports and facility plans for water and/or wastewater systems must integrate all aspects of planning. This may include engineering design, environmental constraints, regulatory permitting, financing and many others. SKG Engineering works to develop comprehensive cost effective plans for municipal facility improvements.
Municipal Permitting – SKG Engineering has a depth of experience in handling wastewater permitting, including new or amended permits for municipal, industrial or agricultural operations.

Municipal Facility Financing Assistance – SKG Engineering has developed and continues to expand capabilities in infrastructure financing assistance. We can provide complete assistance in the TCDP grant process from application through total project administration or can provide only the expertise and assistance that the client needs.

Hazardous and Solid Waste Permitting and Remediation - The environmental and laboratory division of SKG Engineering has developed a solid waste management team comprised of hydrogeologist, engineers, hydrologist and chemist. This team will immediately respond to both your routine and emergency needs and can handle industrial or municipal solid waste problems from permitting through remediation.

Wastewater Treatment and Disposal System Design – Changing state design criteria and permitting requirements demands that we maintain a high level of competence and experience in design staff. SKG Engineering has successfully completed several major wastewater treatment plant and disposal system projects within recent years, including surface water discharge and land irrigation systems.

Water Treatment Plant Design – Cost effective treatment plant design requires operational experience, through knowledge of water chemistry and treatment principles, regulatory experience, a competent design team and an awareness of new technologies. SKG Engineering brings all of these critical factors to your water treatment plant design or improvements.

Asbestos Inspections - Texas Regulations require an asbestos inspection be performed for any public building prior to conducting any activities that might disturb any asbestos containing materials. The TDH must be notified 10 days prior to remodeling or demolition of a structure which will disturb asbestos. SKG Engineering is licensed to perform asbestos inspections and to write Asbestos Management Plans in the event that the asbestos containing material will not be removed.
